River Day 4th August 2012 - Manningford Trout Fishery.

The day began with bacon rolls, coffee and tea provided for the 30 plus anglers who turned up for our River Experience day.
Entomology commenced as the host for the day, Stuart Tanner and his son Tristan took everyone down to the river to demonstrate the art of dipping and gathering kick samples of the various fly life which inhabited the Upper River Avon. These were then placed in trays for everyone to see in the viewing area in our lodge.

Stuart then elaborated on what flies to use, what insects they represented and then proceeded to show various traditional and modern techniques including an interesting way of using a dry fly to slide up and down the leader enabling the point fly to be fished at different depths.
A tasty BBQ lunch followed which was catered by Master Chef Adam Sinclair.

Time after lunch was then spent talking about equipment, rods and reels and safety on the river which including wading, river depth etc…
Time was spent in the afternoon catching some stunning brown trout and putting into practise what Stuart earlier in the day had demonstrated and then anglers were invited to fish the river.

The day was concluded by a fly tying demonstration, Q&A's were held throughout the day.

"Just a quick thank you to the folks at Manningford Trout Fishery for hosting the above, a very educational experience and some super bacon buns as well. Special thanks to Malcolm for the casting tips to junior DF and to Stuart Tanner/Tristan for a master class in small stream fishing techniques".
