SSAFA Fund Raiser 14th March 2012

Manningford hosted a fund raiser for the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) Forces Help, a charity providing help and assistance to anyone who is currently serving or has ever served.

The day started 8am sharp with the "morning session" of approx 12 anglers all rearing to go after a tasty bacon roll served by Manningford's management team. Fishing was fast and furious and winners of the morning session were local Roger Nurse and Alex Caldwell.

A tasty buffet lunch was then provided by SSAFA and everyone sat down to replenish and chat about the mornings fishing including a lovely 7lb 4oz Rainbow by Mr Nurse.

The afternoon session proved to be a little more challenging for some with anglers eventually bagging up and heading back to the lodge for a coffee and weigh in. Peter Wabel stunned us all as he hauled in 4 fish weighing a total of 21lb 14 oz almost a 5 and a half pound fish average. Well done Peter.

That wrapped up an incredibly successful day here at the fishery and thanks to everyone who came down and supported this worthy cause.

A special thanks to Stuart Tanner who amazed everyone with his River Demonstration, proceeding to catch Grayling after Grayling to a cheering crowd. Keith Passant for his "Fly Tying Demo", if you have ever witnessed this man tie flies then you will agree with me, Keith certainly can tie flies. A last but not least mention to John Bond for unselfishly spent most of his day guiding newbee Luke and assisting him catch his first trout. Luke has since been back with Roger Dennis (SSAFA Organiser) and has single handed managed to catch more Trout.
